Associate professor of health care policy (biostatistics) Sherri Rose, PhD, has been named an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA).
Fellow designation is limited to 1/3 of 1% of membership each year. Nominees must have an established reputation and have made outstanding contributions to statistical science. The association places weight on published works, position, participation in ASA activities, membership and accomplishments in other societies, and professional activities. Rose’s election honors her contributions to statistics for health policy. With this prestigious nomination, Rose joins Fellows such as S. James Adelstein Professor of Health Care Policy (Biostatistics) Sharon-Lise Normand, PhD, Daniel C. Tosteson Professor of Health Care Policy (Statistics) Alan Zaslavsky, PhD, and professor of health care policy Mary Beth Landrum, PhD.
In her work, Rose focuses on statistical machine learning for health care policy. She currently studies fairness for risk adjustment formulas and the generalizability of computational health economics algorithms. In 2015, she founded the Health Policy Data Science Lab with associate professor of health care policy (biostatistics) Laura Hatfield, PhD, to create a collaborative, inclusive work environment to investigate policy issues using statistical methods.
The American Statistical Association was founded in 1893 and is the world’s largest community of statisticians. The association promotes the practice and profession of statistics by supporting excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science. The ASA has published the Journal of the American Statistical Association (JASA) since 1888 and now consists of 17 journals and more than 70 chapters across the country.
