Since every physician needs to know about the health care delivery system, the integrated curriculum at Harvard Medical School requires that students learn about the ins and outs of health care policy as part of their medical training. HCP's Essentials of the Profession is a first-year required course at HMS. In addition to this course, we have recently begun co-sponsoring a course entitled “The Physician as a Leader” for students in other years.
As part of our teaching mission, several HCP faculty members offer courses in health care policy to undergraduates at Harvard. These classes expose students to the basics in the field and set the stage for further study in a broad range of areas, including economics, statistics, and premed studies. HCP faculty also participate in courses at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard Kennedy School.
