Grabowski Named to Coronavirus Commission

David C. Grabowski, PhD

Professor of health care policy David C. Grabowski, PhD, has been named to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) independent Coronavirus Commission for Safety and Quality in Nursing Homes.

Twenty-five experts were selected to serve on the commission that will identify best practices for protecting nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The members, who were chosen from over 800 applicants, were selected based on their expertise in infection control and prevention, direct experience with the pandemic, and leadership in relevant issues. Members hail from a variety of backgrounds including medicine, resident advocacy, nursing home administration, and academia.

Grabowski has been an active resource on nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, testifying before the United States House of Representatives Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, speaking on the Tradeoffs podcast, and publishing multiple pieces in prevalent journals.

The commission has been tasked to identify best practices for recognizing COVID, controlling infections, and improving care delivery and responsiveness in nursing homes. The recommendations will cover immediate as well as future care. The commission will report their findings to CMS in September.
