In late 2016, Zirui Song, resident physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and clinical fellow at HMS who collaborates with HCP faculty on research, received the 2016 Seema S. Sonnad Emerging Leader in Managed Care Research Award from The American Journal of Managed Care.

Song’s work focuses on alternative payment models, in particular recent work with Michael Chernew. He has worked on the Alternative Quality Contract for several years, and received the 2013 AcademyHealth Article-of-the-Year award for his work.

In a related press release, Chernew said, 

[Song] identifies important topics and jumps in with gusto. He is clearly a leader. The real question is if he is emerging.
