As of May 1, 2017, Tim Layton was appointed Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
According to the NBER website:
The Health Care Program explores the dramatic consolidation of health care organizations, the expansion of managed care, and the increased price competition among health care providers, all of which have transformed the landscape of health care delivery today. Members of the program study the phenomena now occurring in health care markets, work to understand the factors leading to changes in health care markets, and analyze the consequences of alternative policy options.
The program was founded in 1990 and is currently led by Jonathan Gruber of MIT. It currently focuses on insurance plan choices, health production, labor markets, economics of prescription drugs, health care costs, and covering the uninsured. As a fellow, Layton will continue his work on the economics of health insurance markets with a particular focus on the role of private health plans in the Medicaid program.
Layton has a long relationship with the NBER. He has written six working papers through them on the Marketplaces, Medicare, and health plan payment systems starting in 2014. He is also affiliated with their aging program.
