Nicole Maestas tackles issues around disability and aging in the field of economics. Recent work has allowed her to support others in the field who are taking on similar challenges and becoming experts in the field.
In January 2017, Maestas served as a senior mentor in the American Economic Association’s CeMENT Mentoring Workshop for Faculty in Doctoral Programs. This two-day national workshop—now in its ninth year—brings together female junior and senior faculty for advice and guidance on research and other professional activities.
During the workshop, Maestas worked with five junior faculty working in the health economics field. Small group sessions were used to provide detailed feedback on a paper of each junior participant. Large group sessions were used to discuss a variety of professional topics (publishing, tenure, teaching, networking, etc.). Maestas also participated in the workshop as a junior mentee early in her career.
