In March 2017, Nicole Maestas received a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The grant, which will last three years, will support research that addresses employment transitions for older workers, how working conditions influence these transitions, and how age and employment status shape preferences for continuing work. The grant extends Maestas’ current research funded by the Sloan Foundation on the aging workforce, specifically the job attributes desired by older workers.

Maestas, whose work addresses the economics of aging, has recently worked on studies to improve understanding of older employees in the workplace, from health and productivity, to job opportunities, to the effect of an older workforce on the U.S. economy.

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation supports original STEM research and educational opportunities. It was established in 1934 and operates under the premise “that a reasoned, systematic understanding of the forces of nature and society, when applied inventively and wisely, can lead to a better world for all.”
