HMS health care policy professors J. Michael McWilliams and Bruce Landon have both been appointed to boards for health care organizations.

J. Michael McWilliams, MD, PhD, has been elected to the inaugural Board of Directors for the newly established Institute for Accountable Care.

The Institute, headquartered in Washington D.C., will serve to build an evidence base on accountable care and evaluate the impact that accountable care models have on health care delivery systems.

With the information it collects, the Institute will ensure that effective approaches and best practices reach providers. It aims to assist health care organizations in keeping costs low while still improving the quality of care. The Institute will work to promote collaboration between frontline providers, and help providers develop successful strategies to improve care and control cost growth. The data collected will be made available to researchers.

AcademyHealth works to provide evidence that aids efforts in improving the functioning of the health care system. It promotes practical policies, innovations in care delivery, and arduous evaluation of the health care system.

Landon says that he is honored to serve on the board, and “look[s] forward to sharing my experiences and financial and strategic insights as the board develops new priorities and goals that help to address these challenges while also maintaining and strengthening the core mission of the organization and its members”.
